After running a successful online store for a year, brothers Alexandre and Anibal Furtado opened this monster cool menswear store called Damage Playground in Rotterdam. A combination of lifestyle and art, it’s difficult to tell where the product placement ends and the art begins, when in fact there is no clear boundary. The minimalist design has a gallery feel, with canvasses, projections and prints meshing perfectly with the neo-mannequins, dressed to the nines in the latest clothes from a whole host of the latest, hippest brands, and softly-lit cabinets of accessories.Spacious and with floor-to-ceiling windows that allow plenty of daylight, the store interior is clean and basic but features a range of furnishings and props that are loosely inspired by an actual playground, and allow different configurations. The focal point of the set-up is a collection of wooden mannequins called ‘Human Hangers’, designed to make it easier to combine garments that fit with today’s trends. There’s an abundance a savvy urban gear to choose from, a good selection of lifestyle and culture magazines, and a men’s grooming range that has been developed in collaboration with an artisanal cosmetics brand. They also work with existing designs and patterns, often found at flea markets, to create their own designs. Super duper cooltown!
