Redeveloped by Crosby Studios, this two-bedroom apartment in the centre of Moscow takes inspiration from Brooklyn style studios, featuring clean forms and black & white elements. The design team was inspired by Donald Judd sculptures, Konstantin Melnikov architecture and the atmosphere of the Greenpoint and West Village boroughs in New York, as well as the photographs of the city from the 1980s.The apartment, originally built in 1900s, is a 10m long space, measuring 64sqm in total. The living space is divided into three main zones: kitchen, dining and rest zone with a TV hidden in a cupboard (tick). To reduce the feeling of having a kitchen in the dining area, the top cupboards are finished in white to match the walls, while the fridge is hidden in such a way that only the thin line between the bottom and top door is seen (tick). The renovation was radical. The owners wanted to capture the feeling of space and openness in the apartment. As a result, all the partitions were removed. The bedroom, the office and the bathroom were moved deeper into the apartment, with the main living area occupying the space along the window facade. To aid the passage of light throughout the interior, solid partitions were replaced with a large steel door dividers featuring abundance of glass (tick). The ceiling was cleared of plaster, exposing the entire height and the volume available. Everyone liked the look of existing concrete, hence why this finish was embraced in it’s natural state (tick). The white seamless floor covers the entire apartment, while the perimeter walls are painted white brick, allowing the black steel accents to really sing in the space. 10 points from us!
