It’s been a while since we’ve had a good laugh together, so we’re here today to fix that! Complements Project is a hilarious love-child of graphic designers Leta Sobierajski and Wade Jeffree who started the project out of a desire to collaborate and explore their complementary relationship through portrait photography. It all began with a typical morning conversation between the couple who live in Brooklyn and share a taste for quirky aesthetics and crisp design. Wade, a designer and art director, and Leta, a multi-disciplinary designer who works with photography, video, and digital, wanted the project to combine their strengths in design without compensating their quirky sense of humour. What evolved was Complements, a reinterpretation of those hilariously cringeworthy couple portraits that circulate the internet – a way to reveal the humour and romance behind their relationship.Using a keen sense for bold colours and love for juxtaposing inanimate objects, the couple have updated the old-school approach to portraits by elevating them into the world of contemporary design, fuelling a bizarrely sweet and often grotesque series. Complements explores Leta and Wade’s relationship, as well as the universal strangeness of love, highlighting their individual talents that complement (and compliment!) each other. GOLD!
