Located in the heart of Teton Village, Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Caldera House is a luxury all-suites hotel offering ski-in, ski-out lodging and private membership.

The identity and interior design concept for Caldera House are captured in its logo, a branding iron of a downhill racer in a graphic style that evokes the golden age of Alpine skiing – St. Moritz in the 50’s, Gstaad in the 60’s, Cortina in the 70’s.

Commune took inspiration from a number of references that include Carlo Mollino‘s Casa de Sole, Charlotte Perriand‘s Meribel Ski Resort and scenes from films like Belle du Jour and Charade. The LA-based studio also looked to mid-century modern Scandinavian design, George Nakashima, Jean Prouve, 1950’s Sun Valley ski bums, the work of local furniture and interior designer Thomas Molesworth and Navajo motifs.

“Our goal was for the spaces to feel personal and relatable, elegant but laid back, sophisticated but comfortable and inviting,” explains the design team.

The work of many contemporary artisans and craftsmen is included in the interiors like Lindsey Adelman‘s lighting, BDDW furniture, and pieces by Nakashima Workshop, Axel Vervoordt, Michael Boyd, Caste, Heath Ceramics and Boffi kitchens to name a few.

“Mix of furnishings carries through all the different rooms, providing an eclectic mix of styles in the furniture and accessories which creates a more collected and personal atmosphere,” said the designers.

The result is a mix of European style, American craftsmanship and, the comfort and casual attitude of the West.
