Bellini is a new furniture collection designed by Melbourne-based duo Kate Stokes and Haslett Grounds of studio Coco Flip. Taking its name from the classic Bellini cocktail, first invented at Harry’s Bar in Venice’s Hotel Cipriani, the collection is a nod to old-world glamour. Upholstered bistro-style bench seats are the hero of the range, which extends to bar stools, low café stools, coffee, and side tables. The undulating trim evokes European nostalgia, taking inspiration from bar awnings and Italian enotecas. By merging contemporary and minimalist forms with richly textured wide corduroy, the collection has an air of sophisticated luxury whilst keeping its feet firmly planted on the ground.“We traditionally steer away from ornamentation in our work and rely more heavily on proportion, form, and materiality.” Kate elaborates. “In this instance we felt the oscillating motif was quite transformative and helps give the collection a depth of character and sense of nostalgia.”Coco Flip Explores the art of Pleating at Melbourne Design Week 2023.Working with Melbourne’s last remaining pleating factory the studio presented limited-edition lights alongside a short-film...
