This refurbished apartment, located in a 1930s building in Barcelona, was renovated in 2015 by local studio Cirera + Espinet. The apartment had to be restored from scratch, as it had previously never been touched. The interior presented itself with plenty of original character, including the stunning brick vaulted ceiling. The new layout was designed to suit a young professional family. Many internal partitions were removed to open the spaces up, thereby making them feel taller and brighter. “We come in through the kitchen which is the heart of the flat as it’s completely open and is used as main entrance hall to the rest of the rooms,” explain the designers.A carefully edited materials palette was chosen for the interior, including finished such as polished concrete, reclaimed timber, stainless steel and handmade ceramic. These are contrasted with eclectic furniture choices haling from different eras – second hand sitting alongside design icons – creating a space that’s feels colourful and dynamic, with plenty of personality.
