On the edge of London’s prestigious Eaton Square, a three-level Georgian townhouse has been reimagined by Child Studio into a sanctuary that marries historic architecture with warm modernism.Drawing inspiration from early 20th-century European modernist villas, Child Studio’s founders Alexy Kos and Che Huang have created interiors that speak to both past and present. “There is a timeless, understated elegance to those spaces. The focus is on traditional techniques and natural materials while the overall atmosphere is cosy and serene,” explains the duo.The dramatic living room features a spectacular 5-meter-tall timber library wall—a nod to Karl Lagerfeld’s famed Paris studio, no less. This space showcases a curated mix of modernist pieces, including classic Bauhaus armchairs by Walter Gropius paired with custom sofas featuring semicircular timber-clad backs.Mayfair Residence by Child Studio.Tucked away in a historic mews courtyard in the heart of Mayfair, the secluded site for a London-based hotelier presented a blank canvas for the designers. In the dining area, rare original Pierre Jeanneret chairs from Le Corbusier‘s Chandigarh project surround a custom-designed round table. An 18th-century limestone fireplace sourced from France adds gravitas to the space, while above it, a 1920s moonstone pendant light completes the eclectic composition. The principal bathroom stands as perhaps the most striking space in the home, entirely clad in emerald-green Verde Guatemala marble. “The inspiration came from visiting the seminal 1930s Villa Serralves,” note the designers, who worked closely with Italian artisans to achieve the same level of precision in the stonework.Inside the Contemporary Renovation of a Historic Parisian Treasure. This Parisian apartment, once part of Napoleon's office complex, has been reimagined by Joris Poggioli into a contemporary haven. Throughout the residence, Child Studio’s meticulous attention to craft is evident in details like the undulating curves that appear in ceiling coves, timber furniture, and carved marble elements. “Our approach evolved around a constrained selection of natural materials: hand-crafted wood, solid stone, and tactile fabrics,” explain Huang and Kos. “Focusing on quality and comfort, we aimed to create an effortless and relaxing home that serves as an understated backdrop to the owner’s life.”The result is a 300-square-meter residence that feels historically grounded and thoroughly contemporary—a space where vintage pieces and custom designs come together perfectly.Three Artist Studios Reborn as One Apartment by Atelier HA.The designers' personal connection to the space, dating back to their student days, infuses every detail with meaning, from the carefully chosen antiques to the bathtub placed to face the Eiffel Tower.
