Last month Bills launched in Ginza, bringing the popular, all-day dining scene to Tokyo‘s most elegant district. Designed by long term collaborators Meacham Nockles McQualter, and located on the top floor of the brand new “Okura House” building, Bill Granger’s latest Tokyo restaurant has been created to reflect the luxurious spirit of the thriving shopping neighbourhood.

Distinctive in its design, the most recent Tokyo site displays an unparalleled elegance that is synonymous with the much-loved Ginza district. As Bill explains, “We set out for the new Bills to be a place that makes you feel like you are spending time in a luxurious jewellery box, where gold and colourful gems like sapphires and emeralds glitter in the sun or in the restaurant’s lights in the evening and you are cossetted by velvet, leather, terrazzo, marble and mirror.”

Sporting a large timber-fronted marble bar that anchors the space, the restaurant weaves together an intense collection of colour through curved buttery, leather banquettes and plush, velvet chairs in olive and gold. Adorned with Australian art and sculptures, the restaurant also displays the Gucci-owned Richard Ginori decorative plates upon which afternoon tea is served.

Already a huge fan of Tokyo, Bill says, “I’ve always looked upon this location as somewhere particularly special. Ginza is one of my favourite neighbourhoods as it’s a mix between the old and new. The bling and brashness of the big brands mixed with tiny independent artisans in the back streets, makes it an intoxicating place to get lost in one of the world’s greatest cities. One of my team described this area of Tokyo as “New York on steroids” and I agree!”
