This 250-square-metre house in Madrid emerges as a celebration of the connection between interior and exterior spaces, with architecture by Beta Ø serving as a frame for nature rather than a barrier to it.The transformation began with the bold decision to strip back the building to its original concrete bones. What emerged was a light-filled canvas that set the stage for the entire design approach. The architects’ vision centred on creating a home where every room maintains a dialogue with the garden—effectively turning this green space into the project’s beating heart.Monumentality defines the interior spaces, yet there’s an underlying warmth that makes the home feel deeply liveable. The material palette speaks to this duality: polished metals catch and reflect light throughout the day, while artisanal textures and minimalist furniture crafted from wood and natural stone add organic warmth to the composition. This architectural choice wasn’t merely aesthetic—it transforms the garden into an active participant in the daily life of the home, bringing coolness and creating a constant connection to the changing seasons. The result is a space that manages to be both sculptural and functional. It’s a home that creates an atmosphere of refined simplicity that feels both contemporary and timeless. In This 18th Century Madrid Home, Classical Solemnity Meets Invigorating Modernity. The centrepiece of the home is a large library, which serves as the heart of the space. In the bathrooms and kitchen, continuous surfaces are juxtaposed with metal details and Portuguese pink marble. [Images courtesy of Beta Ø.
