Berlin-based architect Thomas Bendel has refurbished 440m² of a historic building and turned into a slick and minimalist office space for a branding agency Stan Hema. The space features a dramatic black & white palette and sharp detailing, both of which are the hallmark of Bendel’s work.

The interior is divided with multifunctional panels that open and close to create separate rooms as required. The historical features of the building, such as the timber doors are seamlessly integrated with slick contemporary joinery walls. These are painted out black in the effort to unify the old and the new.

There is an abundance of mirrored junctions that can be spotted throughout to the space – from wall junctions, to joinery skirting. This cunning detail allows the awkward junctions to disappear into infinity, creating a little element of surprise in this otherwise hard-edged interior. Not bad. Not bad at all.
