Bang is the work of Nicholas Gurney (co-owner of Farmhouse in Kings Cross) and Bangladesh born and raised head chef Tapos Singha (ex-Est, Bills, Gowings Bar & Grill and Lucio’s) – serving traditional Bangladeshi street food to the streets of Sydney. “The restaurant pays tribute to the energetic blend of art and intellect, passion and poverty, love and hate that line the streets of Bengal”, says Gurney.

The 60-seat restaurant, it’s interiors designed by Gurney’s own design firm, will donate a portion of takings to relief aid in Bangladesh. Bang is housed in a high-ceilinged room featuring exposed brick, timber rafters and white feature walls. The open kitchen is enclosed by a black-tiled bar; surrounding it are long communal tables and more intimate configurations. In the stairway, a brilliant neon sign casts a red glow over the restaurant’s street entrance. Staff members wear bright graphic shirts that show off the Bengal tiger. The open bar and slick interiors are punctuated by Arne Jacobsen plates that spell out B.A.N.G. on tables.
