Hello,

I am ROPE. I am a rope.

They made me huge, bigger than all the other ropes.

I just don’t know what to do with myself.

Do something with me!

By supersizing and scaling up one of the world’s oldest inventions – rope, Atelier Ief Spincemaille has created a simple but versatile, limited-edition object dubbed, what for it – ROPE 6M.

“Because ROPE is made disproportionately large, it has lost its function as a rope,” explains the Belgian visual artist.

Whether being used as an expressive functional sculpture or a playful furniture object, ROPE’s purpose is only limited by one’s imagination. Suitable for use in private and public spaces, both inside and out, ROPE 6M is weatherproof and washable.

“Because people on Rope are physically connecting in a unique way – between sitting and lying down, playing and speaking, together on one object – this sculpture creates new ways of being together,” says Ief Spincemaille. “Sitting on Rope, we look in different directions, and we seem to experience silence completely differently. If one person shifts or moves, Rope also rearranges, and choreography is created parallel to the conversation.”

ROPE 6M is produced in limited runs and handwoven in Belgium using a technique developed by Atelier Ief Spincemaille based on traditional weaving crafts. Lef Spincemaille worked on the development of this object with textile designer Esther Van Schuylenbergh. For more information on pricing and lead times, visit rope.blue.
