Atelier HA has reignited Paris’ love affair with an old classic via Mistinguett restaurant at the Casino de Paris, which opened 140 years after the music hall’s inauguration.

“Mistinguett is inspired by the Roaring Twenties,” shares Hugo Vince and Adèle Nourry, founders of Atelier HA. With an ambience reminiscent of 1920s Parisian brasseries, the space lives up to its name in an assuredly theatrical tone of plush red. Seating 130 patrons the interior is expansive with alcoves, a private dining room and a ‘King’s Table’ on the balcony—ideal if you like to be the centre of attention.

You can find it at the top of the Casino de Paris staircase, overlooking the Napoleon III entrance hall, a new spot for Parisian lunches, a table before or after shows, and a hangout destined for night owls.

Originating from the black and white archives of the former restaurant, Le Perroquet, Atelier HA reconnected with the historical aesthetic, finding antique gems in France, Italy and Belgium. Two feathered Murano glass chandeliers are flanked by made-to-measure banquettes, two-toned tables with lacquered legs and a luminous original arch gleaming in lame and gold.

In the bathroom, a floral female fountain takes centre stage, a colourful piece by artists Caroline Derveaux and Margaux Dehry. The fountain is a homage to the restaurant’s namesake, Mistinguett or La Miss, a chorus girl who became the ‘official godmother’ of the former establishment. The collaborators describe it as a “female fountain, the reincarnation of Mistinguett in her most phantasmagoric dreams, where femininity, animality, and naturalness intermingle around a fountain.” Very French.

Under the celestial vault, visual artist Matthias Kiss designed a surreal sky in a nod to frescoes of yesteryear. “[developed from] a desire to bring the outside-in,” he says, “to make us dream and create a horizon between the imaginary world that is so lacking in our cities and our daily lives.” 100 years on, the roaring 20’s return.
