Memphis design and postmodernist inspired, Melt’s third outpost in the 15th Arrondissement of Paris takes us on a trip of the senses. Designed by Hugo & Adèle of break out design practice Atelier HA, the smoked meat restaurant was designed with warm materials and colours in the spirit of an American diner.First crossing paths at the Camondo School in Paris and craving a space free from structure, Huge and Adèle formed Atelier HA. With a particular talent for hospitality projects, the duo create entire universes within their interiors—with a focus on the details. To create this particularly retro universe, the designers covered the walls with stained oak panels to warm up the interior. Concrete red floors from Marius Aurenti and neon lights taken straight from a 70s German cafeteria—sourced from Berlin’s Alt Beau Lamps—add a source of contrast and surprise.Ode to Americana: PNY Burger in Lille by Rudy Guénaire. This burger joint in Northern France evokes visions of Elvis, Jazz and even Lana Del Rey, with Art Deco elements inspired by the Miami Art District... In the kitchen the smoker becomes more than merely functional. Designed in connection with the dining room thanks to a large custom-designed glass roof in smoky orange, it now becomes a focus of entertainment with customers observing the cuts of meat from their seat—not to mention your neighbour’s dish.Hugo & Adèle’s favourite part of the project though is hidden from view, the retro-italo vintage bathroom with bottle green marble tiles up to the datum line and neon lighting steals the show only to be upstaged by brass swan tapware. The New Classic: Abstinence Restaurant Paris by Lizée-Hugot Studio.Classic stylings mix with 70s sleaze and modernist inspired furniture in this elegant French bistro.
