The Dutch lighting brand Atelier Artiforte is back after an almost 40 years absence. The brand, founded by Henk Fillekes in 1930, relaunched at Object Rotterdam this past May.

Atelier Artiforte were considered innovators of the time as traditional lampshades made way for clear and transparent lighting designs in the fifties. In the fifties and sixties, Henk Fillekes was the driving force behind the innovative designs that made the brand famous. Apart from Fillekes’ work, the collection includes designs by architects Kho Liang Ie and his teacher Johan Niegeman.

In addition to the classics, Atelier Artiforte is also launching well-known designs by Aldo van den Nieuwelaar including his well-known TC-6 Circle Lamp. Later this year, innovative lighting by various contemporary Dutch designers will follow.

The reanimation of the brand is thanks to RSGA Design, the parent company of Rietveld Originals, Spectrum Design and the well-known Gelderland furniture brand, who acquired the rights to produce all of Atelier Artiforte’s designs last year.

The legacy brand is a welcome addition to the leading RSGA design portfolio. “Designer David Derksen pointed us to the beauty of the designs of this special company. After a long search, we managed to track down all the rightful owners. We are expanding the collection of historical classics with various current designs by, for example, said David Derksen, Rick Tegelaar and Rachel Griffin,” elaborated RSGA founder Titus Darley.
