Last year was a tumultuous time for many, but for Sydney-based tapware manufacturer Astra Walker, it offered some valuable thinking time. The result is the release of new lines that invite us to linger a little longer during everyday rituals like washing our hands.

Suitable for commercial and residential use, Assemble is one of Astra Walker’s latest collection releases – a celebration of flexibility, workmanship and high-quality design. It is one of three new concepts that have been narrowed down from 25 designs developed during 2020.

With its wide variety of dial options, including Knurled, Reeded, Fluted and Round dials, the Assemble engages our visceral need for touch. Subtle attention to texture is paramount in this collection of round counter and wall mounted handles.

Dials range from the robust feel of the diamond cut cross pattern seen in Knurled, through to the nostalgic Reeded handle, modelled on the classic dial of an old-school radio, a gas stove or even a Coke bottle.

At once a nod to the past and a look to the future, the understated clean lines of Assemble are available in a fan deck of colours and finishes from copper, brass and bronze through to satin chrome and matt black.

“It was coming back to the idea that our designs are fresh, agile and fun. We’re the brand you go to for inspiration,” says Andrew Shirtliff, Astra Walker brand director and co-founder. “We saw a lot of texture in the market, and we have developed that into our handles.”

Since 2001, Astra Walker has focused on being adaptable, responsive and agile. This has allowed them to retain integrity, both in design and manufacturing.

“As an Australian company, it’s about controlling the quality of the product and not cutting corners,” says Andrew. “We have control of the manufacturing process, even from the design phase.”
