Australian lighting brand Articolo Studios has unveiled its inaugural Artist Series with the launch of Barnacles, a collection of sculptural sconces that blend artistry and illumination. This new range, created in collaboration with Melbourne artist Emma Davies, showcases hand-finished metal forms adorned with pressed pigmented ‘barnacles’.

The Artist Series was conceived by Articolo Studios’ founder and creative director, Nicci Kavals, who explains the motivation behind the collection: “Articolo has always cast a wide radius of curiosity, from architecture and art to fashion and dance. We’re delighted to deepen our connection to the arts by collaborating directly with local and international artists, fusing their unique practices with the sophisticated engineering and elevated design that Articolo Studios is known for.”

Inspired by Davies’ distinctive approach to transforming remnant materials, the Barnacles sconces feature meticulously crafted ‘barnacle’ forms. These are created by heating reclaimed bird netting and bailing twine, then gently pressing a smooth rock into the surface to form delicate, rounded fragments. Davies reflects on her process: “Each intricate piece is imprinted with the unique patterns of my touch, reinforcing the idea that art is a living, evolving dialogue between creator and creation.”
