It’s happened. The end of the year has crept up on us again, and we are so not ready. The invitations are coming in hot and fast, but so are the deadlines. In this hazy time, healthy habits often take a backseat to overindulgence. With this frenzy in mind, Armadillo’s latest collection invites us to take a moment and slow down.

Framing the home for the practice of gentle rituals, Petra finds the Australian brand in the world of Berber-style rugs. Elevated by Armadillo’s restrained aesthetic, this contemporary take on the traditional Moroccan design feels effortless in its luxury.

Petra speaks to the brand’s broader set of values. Led by Jodie Fried and Sally Pottharst, Armadillo is underpinned by “Quiet Living”, defined as a cultural shift towards a gentler pace of life that is kinder to individuals, communities and the environment. In a nutshell, the ethos is to create thoughtful, sustainable and intuitive products that last a lifetime. Simple, good stuff that sometimes gets forgotten in a world that moves at breakneck speed.

To paint the picture, the brand tapped its frequent collaborator and interior stylist Joseph Gardner to weave a nurturing story full of mindful moments within this beautiful Woollahra home designed by Sydney-based interior design studio Handelsmann + Khaw. Captured by photographer Anson Smart alongside a short film by Jack Birtles, the collection is a canvas for tender practices, making an occasion out of the quiet.

Petra is the most voluminous in Armadillo’s collection to date, a thick, lush, hand-knotted pile made from New Zealand wool. Flanked by plaited tassels, the rug is an indulgent texture that imbues a visual and physical softness into the every day to promote the art of slowing down.

A subdued take on the 70’s inspired shag style, the collection is available in five muted tones that reference the elements—Storm, Arctic, Cloud, Blanc and Sparrow. The soothing palette is modern and laidback, enveloping interiors with an elegance that gives occasion to pause.

Each rug is made from carefully sourced natural fibres and crafted by hand using traditional, energy-efficient processes—resulting in a product of quality, longevity and, therefore, sustainability. The result is a truly unique, soulful product whose variations speak of authenticity. Something a machine can never truly replicate.
