Architect Photographs Extraordinary Ceilings in Iran.

Armed with his iPhone, Iranian architect and ‘instagram photographer’ @m1rasoulifard takes spectacularly beautiful kaleidoscopic images of mosque ceilings in his native city, Tehran. His images highlight the structural, colourful and architectural beauty of these incredibly elaborate spaces. From the oldest mosques in the city that date back to 5,000 BC, to local school mosques, viewing these images is a hypnotic experience – a voyeuristic look inside private spaces not usually privy to the western world.

Absorbing all the different decorative elements is a little like decoding a puzzle, as though there is some sort of cosmic symbolism in all of these rhythms, patterns, and geometries that can be ‘understood’ if one looks for long enough. Some of the images appear to be taken with a fish eye lens, warping yet highlighting the unique details of the vaulted and dome ceilings. It’s incredible to think most of these spaces were constructed well before the industrial era – the meticulous artistic skill is seriously impressive. A big thanks to @m1rasoulifard for capturing and sharing the beauty for all to enjoy.
