Anna Karlin’s eponymous multi-disciplinary creative studio has designed 11 model apartments for One Manhattan Square, a new luxury residential building on NYC’s Lower East Side. Transformed from white-walled units, each apartment tells the story of the unique characters who may someday come to inhabit the space. The richly layered final product speaks to the ‘home ideal’ of each one of the characters the studio developed.

Intentional space planning and programming bring the conceptual briefs to life, with floor plans designed specifically for each hypothetical character and their imagined lifestyle. Design choices honour their distinct identities, while also resulting in spaces that speak to the vision of the Studio. Customized furnishings and fixtures allowed for optimum use of space, with the final layouts being efficient and elegant while integrating the necessary programmatic elements of a luxury New York City residence.

A blend of vintage, design classics and custom furnishings are paired with textural elements in finishes that enhance the depth of personality. Curated details like art and styling, tie the storylines together. A ‘Green Sanctuary’ apartment for an urban gardener gives seclusion from city life, with serene energy encouraged by light and natural tones. In ‘Place for Entertaining’, a welcoming space designed for a host encourages congregation and conversation with soft textures and warm hues.

‘Private Quarters’ features meticulous curation with a rich mix of vintage and luxury speaking to a cultured approach to life. In ‘Modern Pad’, functionality and experience suit a tech-savvy tenant, with sleek foundations and stark contrasts. ‘Wish you Were Here’ features an eclectic combination of colour, pattern, geared toward a collector whose items have a story to tell.

Conceived for someone design aware and fashion-forward, ‘Pret-A-Porter’ reflects an on-trend NYC lifestyle, with considered colour combinations and shiny accents reflecting a love of luxury retail. An elegant setting for a couple, ‘Empty Nesters’ evokes a mature and refined taste with muted tones and warm metallics. Finally, the ‘Young Family’ model sets a playful tone with strong graphic elements, a reflection of inhabitants with successful and experienced creative careers.
