The Mistress. The Wife. The Receptionist. The Secretary. The Starlet. The Socialite. Norwegian photographer Anja Niemi combines self-portraits with staged narratives to create stunning cinematic result. The images feel like scenes from old movies, with talented photographer cast as all the characters. Niemi refers to herself as a ‘one-man band‘, as she always works alone. ‘I love every aspect of creating an image and would not want to give any of it away.’Born in Norway in 1976, Niemi studied at the London College of Printing, and Parsons School of Design in New York. Her recent series ‘Starlets’ (above) and ‘Do Not Disturb’ (below) feature a series of beautiful, sometimes iconic interiors that act as a perfect backdrop for her aesthetic vision. So good!Do Not Disturb.Do Not Disturb.Do Not Disturb.Do Not Disturb. ‘I remember being a kid dressing up in my grandmothers cocktail dresses, how amazing it made me feel. I still get the same rush today, there is something incredibly freeing about transforming yourself into something else. It’s as if you are no longer responsible for your own actions.’Visit Anja’s website and view larger images in gallery below.
