Legendary Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza has collaborated with Swiss brand Cauny on the ‘Siza’ watch collection. The series includes four watches, each with minor variations including dial size and strap colour. As the first wristwatch designed by the Pritzker Prize Awardee, Siza described the process as a “beautiful and stimulating exercise.”

The exclusive edition features super slim quartz movement, sapphire glass, an authentic Italian leather bracelet in camel or black, finely crafted details, customised dials and hands, and an inscription from Álvaro Siza on the back of a high-precision steel case.

The story of Cauny’s new launch begins in 2021, when the brand’s team and Álvaro Siza started talking about the design of an exclusive model. “Throughout each step of the creative process, we witnessed his enormous creative vitality, the speed of thought, the freedom in drawing, the incessant curiosity, the rigour with which he approaches every detail,” Filipe Costa Almeida, Head of Cauny elaborates on the undertaking.

Not looking to reinvent the wheel, Siza created the series “with the aim that this transformation was not imperceptible, and also that this watch looked like a watch”, suggesting that “the new doesn’t have to be an aggression—which doesn’t always happen”.

Available in two versions, the White comes with a camel strap and simple single-aspect hands with forked ends. Mirror on the other hand has a black strap and double aspect hands.

For Almeida the collaboration is a dream come true. “It is undoubtedly one of the proudest moments in Cauny’s centenary journey and our greatest contribution to the history of watch design”.
