High-end furniture design studio Ahu exhibited their new pieces at 5Vie during this past Milan Design Week 2022. Based in London and Istanbul, the studio produces limited edition collectible designs that are both functional and sculptural. Each piece is handmade in Istanbul by master craftsmen in specialised ateliers, using the highest quality materials and finishes.Founded by long-time friends and Central Saint Martin’s alumni, Eda Akaltun and Mevce Çıracı, the pieces combine works of graphic art with innovative product and furniture design—inspired and informed by the art, craft, history and mysticism of the diverse cultures that have inhabited Asia Minor and by Ikram, the Turkish tradition of offering guests boundless hospitality. The studio presented a selection of coffee tables from their collection titled Ka’Ve and a minibar named Keyf 02. Separate sections of the pieces are formed by different masters and then assembled into one piece, conveying the diverse knowledge and techniques of each artisan.Metronome Chair by david/nicolas.The latest in the designer's Studio Line this chair, made in Italy, is a natural addition to the designer’s line that features joinery between wooden cylinders to form a classic silhouette... The solid mahogany frame of the Keyf minibar is machined from digital data and hand finished by a master carpenter, who then treats it with henna to achieve its unique velvety touch. The artwork is applied on the panels using unique digital printing technology and then hand lacquered to achieve its glass-like high gloss quality. Similarly, the fluid forms of the Ka’Ve coffee tables are machined from digital data and the organically shaped legs are moulded using plywood.“We blend traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art design and fabrication technologies and value the use of raw materials and non-toxic surface finishes,” says Mevce Çıracı. “The design of the cabinet complements the fluent nature of the graphic artwork, and allows it to be perceived as three dimensional.”Studio Akademos’ Debut Furniture Collection. The Paris-based Studio takes us on an experiential journey through some unmistakeable periods from the twentieth century, revamped with a contemporary eye for functionality...The Keyf Minibar.
