Kessel-Lo House by NU Architectuuratelier // Belgium.

Ghent-based practice NU Architectuuratelier have refurbished this two-storey house in the suburbs of Leuven in Belgium. Isn’t it just glorious? So simple and refined, with loads of personality. And can we please talk about that stair cascading down in front of the double height window? A bit of a died-and-gone-to-heaven moment, no? The graphic black lines of the staircase are carried through in the detailing of the balustrade and sliding steel-framed glass doors that act as a divider between the public and the private areas of the house. The overall feel is pared back, rational and reduced to bare essentials, with the red floor acting as a perfect dose of the unexpected.
