Well, well, well… If ever there was a place you could BLOW me (boom boom!), this would have to be it. What a beautiful little gem. This exclusive hair salon in Copenhagen opened just last month. It was designed by the clever people at STUDIO David Thulstrup. A modern and minimalist interior with a 1950’s twist – what’s not to love!At just 38sqm, the salon packs a punch with a clever selection of materials, simplicity of form and beautiful detailing. The attention revolves around two large freestanding mirrors with attached light bulbs that form a perfect circle. A contemporary interpretation of 1950’s dressing rooms, where the lighting provides a gentle glow to customers’ faces while they are blown for perfect hair. Oh man, that’s my definition of a happy ending right there! By the way, no cutting of hair takes place at this salon. No sir. It really is all about the blow job dry. All the furniture, except for Egon Eiermann chairs was custom designed for the space. Yellow is the main colour of the salon, courtesy of the hero material Giallo Siena marble. Several plywood panels were stained yellow to match the stone, while others where left natural.Full height handmade lacquered mirrors are another hero of this interior. These mirror panels were created by the team at STUDIO David Thulstrup by applying several layers of transparent and white lacquer that were later spread — or rather blown — in order to achieve an organic and random shape. You can watch the below video which reveals the mirror making process. It’s fascinating.
