São Paulo-based Studio Guilherme Torres recently completed a temporary installation titled “Hotel Black”. The project formed part of MostraBlack – a 40-day annual event that features creativity of the top professionals in architecture, design and décor throughout Brazil. Since 2011, the entire cast of MostraBlack has been exclusively invited by the event curators after a careful selection and approval process. Such an interesting concept, no?The rockstars at Studio Guilherme Torres have created a cool, sustainable and cozy interior. The bamboo plays a central role in the project. It is used on the floor, ceiling and some of the walls, which divide the spaces. The rest of the walls feature an incredible three-dimensional ceramic coating – the architect’s interpretation of the legendary fresco paintings and tromp l’oeils of the court in the old continent. There is a strong sense of repetition and clarity within the interior. The combination of the geometric wall pattern, relentless lines on windows and ceilings (which are also picked up in the iconic PP Møbler’s PP225 Flag Halyard Chair and custom sofa upholstery), and linear shadows cast on floors and walls render the interior with a sense of depth, visual richness and overall hotness. The lighting technique, which illuminates the space with energy efficiency, is brought to life through large tensioned screen panels. The high standard interior architecture travels beyond modern and functional furniture – most of them designed by the architect’s team especially for this oneiric hotel, where contemporary masterpieces interact with the visitor. On a different note, I would like to point out that this is the third time I’ve featured a project with brilliant use of blinds (see here and here). I believe that my bad attitude towards these little suckers might officially be changed. How about you? See more projects by Studio Guilherme Torres on Yellowtrace.
