I’d like to start this post by saying that I am 100% fully aware that Yellowtrace is not a fashion blog, however this ain’t exactly your typical fashion post, so please just bear with me. Many of you will no doubt be familiar with the cult Melbourne-based fashion label Alpha60. I have personally been a huge fan ever since I discovered how comfortable and wearable their clothing is – I’ve had an Alpha60 black skirt on high rotation for a few years (even while I was preggers – I kid you not).Alpha60 is the brainchild of brother and sister duo Alex and Georgie Cleary, who launched their label in 2005. Since then, the Alpha60 collection has flourished into a unique label known for its fresh take on classic styles and cuts, while maintaining a ‘sophisticated quirk’ that’s unique to the brand. Georgie and I have been chatting about working together for a little while, but once she sent me the images of their Autumn/ Winter 2013 collection I was instantly compelled to turn a few of my favourite looks into ‘reverse mood-boards’.“Errr… What are reverse mood-boards, Dana?”Well, I’m not exactly sure either, but – you know – I was thinking that mood boards are usually something designers put together before starting a project, however I was wanting to create them around something which had already been designed. I was essentially reversing the process in my head. Hence the name. You with me so far? My eyes were instantly drawn to the colours of this beautiful collection – deep plums, royal blues, forest greens, pale creams and blacks. I was also really taken by the garments’ clean architectural shapes with a twist. So, I began my process of gathering the images and channelling the Alpha60 vibe. The result is a series of mood boards that reinterpret Alpha60’s signature aesthetic, and extend it to a complete design lifestyle – from architecture, interiors, furniture, lighting, graphics, art and even cars. Just like the name suggests – this is what it looks like when Alpha60 hangs out with Yellowtrace. We look good together.Alpha60 Autumn/ Winter 2013 collection is hitting stores right now.
