Designed by ON design partners, FIKA is a home that converts into a weekend shop selling scandinavian collectibles. Separated by a full-height white shelving unit, the shop and the home merge into a single space creating a unique and intimate shopping experience.Built on a corner block that measures just 35sqm (no, that’s not a typo), the house takes up approximately 58sqm over three floors. Customers can enter the shop and browse the large shelving unit, where products for sale are placed alongside everday personal objects belonging to the owner. Large floor to ceiling windows allow for plenty of natural light in the double-height space, creating a light a bright environment within a teeny tiny footprint.Amazing, no? Next time I hear someone complain about how small their place is (including yours truly), I will instantly be pointing them in the direction of this project. Boom! P.S. I am quite aware this project has done the rounds on the internet (and for a good reason), which is precisely why I resisted blogging about it until now. As it turns out, I can resist it not more dammit, so please forgive me if this is old and boring news.[Photos by Koichi Torimura, via spoon tamago and ArchDaily.]Share the love:FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailPinterest One Response Architecture | Yellowtrace 2013 Archive.
