I adore this furniture collection by Hungarian studio A+ Z Designers. Made from traditional materials and methods, this range is inspired by Gypsy culture, driven by desire to keep many of their disappearing cultural traditions alive.

Maybe it’s just me, but I have a bit of a soft spot for Gypsies. They remind me of my childhood and many encounters I’ve had with these people whilst growing up. I could never forget the countless times a group of Gypsies would come to our street with a bear, as in a proper full grown circus type bear, and they’d make it dance around by giving it beer and playing loud crazy-ass ethnic music. The poor bear would dance around, and us kids would look on, eyes wide with wonder and excitement, while the adults would frown as they knew that Gypsies were there wanting money. Ah, funny memories. Actually, come to think of it, that’s probably some sort of animal cruelty, right? Giving a bear beer and making it dance around for money all day long…?

Anyway, I digress. Back to the furniture. It’s cool, right?

Quirky, playful and inventive = Extreme Love.

This collection is hand-carved and hand-painted, and it was launched yesterday at Tent London Truman Brewery in London – there until this Sunday, 26th September (which is my birthday – happy birthday to me! And also one of my dearestest friends is getting married on Sunday. Hooray! I love weddings of people I love. A lot.)
