There’s something thrilling about watching a design brand mature over time—like seeing a brilliant creative mind unfold and take full flight. For Melbourne-based Articolo Studios, Milan Design Week 2025 marked not just their return to Euroluce at the Salone del Mobile fairgrounds but also a defining chapter, as the brand celebrates its first decade of existence through three remarkable new collections.

We’re feeling more than a little giddy about this milestone moment for founder Nicci Kavals and her team. This culmination of ten years of dedicated refinement, quiet innovation, and a steadfast commitment to elevated craftsmanship has catapulted this Australian brand firmly onto the global stage.

For Articolo, quality is paramount. Brass is the base metal for all of their interior lighting fixtures, with bronze hand-applied where desired. Both brass and bronze are finished with an electrophoretic clear coat—the most durable ceramic coating available globally. The company also takes pride in its sophisticated engineering, which is gracefully concealed in its elegant fittings.

It’s no surprise that, in just a decade, Articolo has secured specifications in Four Seasons, Bulgari Hotels, and flagship stores for luxury brands worldwide, as well as many other projects by leading architects and interior designers globally, proving that unwavering commitment to craftsmanship and innovation transcends geographic limitations. The brand has also built a reputation for quality and customer service, which has been key to their success.

Housed in a warm, travertine-clad exhibition space designed by Studio Goss at Euroluce’s Hall 4, Articolo’s installation created a meditative sanctuary that swept visitors away from the bustling fair into a sophisticated residential environment. Here, the brand unveiled its evolution from decorative lighting pioneers to something far more expansive—a complete design universe where the “world of Articolo” came to life.

Swivel: Where Task Meets Poetry

First up (and we’re really excited about this one) is Swivel—Articolo’s debut adjustable task light, which marries exceptional performance with the studio’s signature decorative mastery.

Each fitting rotates at precise 15° intervals in a complete 360° cycle, allowing you to create bespoke lighting landscapes—whether to illuminate the ceiling with a celestial effect, concentrate light on the task at hand, or highlight architectural details worthy of attention. The ovoid diffuser, crafted from the finest technical European glass, delivers unsurpassed clarity, making these lights as functional as they are beautiful.

“Swivel is customisable, allowing clients to tailor lighting fixtures to their specific preferences,” Kavals explains. Available in brass or bronze with options for stain-resistant leathers or Italian mesh detailing, these pieces reflect the brand’s deep understanding that true luxury lies in choice and adaptation.

Cubo: The Essence of Contrast

Cubo continues Articolo’s exploration of contrasts—juxtaposing precision-machined materials with handcrafted poeticism, solidity with transparency, and strong geometry with textural, light-filled play. Each glass block is created by pouring molten glass into a hand-chiselled wooden mould, producing a unique textural imprint that speaks to Kavals’ belief that objects should bear the soulful mark of their maker.

Available in desaturated glass hues with deliciously culinary names like Ice, Guava, Honey, Mint and Smoke (a fitting nod to Kavals’ past life as a chef and food stylist), the collection’s unadorned geometry feels architectonic while Cubo Swing offers a more playful interpretation.

“We may build houses, but we create homes—from the location we adopt, the objects we choose to furnish it with, and the people we invite in. Each home is a time capsule; a fragment of one’s life.” — Nicci Kavals

Saddle: The Next Dimension

Perhaps most thrilling is Saddle—the furniture collection that signals Articolo’s evolution beyond lighting. Each piece features cushions clad in durable linen composite suspended in stain-proof leather slings that unite solid walnut legs. The detailing here is reminiscent of saddlery and early Milanese ateliers—a fusion of tradition and contemporary sensibility.

“We may build houses, but we create homes,” reflects Kavals. “Each home is a time capsule; a fragment of one’s life.” This philosophy infuses each piece with purpose beyond mere function.

For a brand that began with a singular vision for lighting and has now expanded to embrace a full spectrum of interior elements, this tenth anniversary speaks of continuity and the confident unfolding of a greater vision. As Kavals puts it: “The foundations are laid, and we are now at the starting gates, ready to unfold the greater vision for the brand.”

Massive respect to Nicci and her team—what began as a quiet Australian presence has blossomed into a global force specified by leading architects and interior designers worldwide. A true meeting of good business and design brilliance.
