Recent Projects.

One Hot Yoga in Melbourne by Robert Mills Architects.

Melbourne’s yoga community has found a new home at Studio 2: the latest addition to South Yarra wellness retreat, One Hot Yoga. Hidden amongst the apartments and car parks of River Street, Studio 2 offers a cooler alternative to traditional hot yoga, its temperate 27 ̊ space host to classes that focus more upon practice than heat. Its predecessor and sibling, Studio 1, still caters for those who like it hot, staging 60-minute sessions at 37 ̊.

Housed in a converted factory, both studios were designed by architect Rob Mills, who set out to produce an uplifting and healthy sanctuary for hot yoga devotees. To do this, he combined state-of-the-art design with a low-energy panel heating system – the only one of its kind in Australia.

Arne Jacobsen Tongue Chair Reissued by HOWE.

Danish furniture brand HOWE has relaunched Arne Jacobsen’s classic Tongue chair originally designed in 1955. The chair was designed for the Munkegård School in Denmark, but it was not produced commercially until the late 1980s and was withdrawn after a few years. Tongue was the second chair designed by Jacobsen, shortly after his famous Ant chair, but it never achieved the same widespread distribution as many of his other furniture designs.

The Tongue chair is available in several veneers or with fabric or leather upholstery. Legs are chrome or powder-coated steel.

Moulin Chair by Pierre Paulin for Artifort.

A good, old-fashioned chair designed by the late Pierre Paulin. Previously in the collection of Thonet France, it now completes the Artifort collection. The design of the Moulin dates from Pierre Paulin’s early years and was conceived on the Rue Jean Moulin. The design is modest with a slim frame and has an upholstered back and seat. Simple and without frills.

Introducing Pampa Woven Art.

Pampa is run by two photographers, one from Argentina, the other from Australia that chose to start a life together. “Every single one of our rugs and tapestries are considered pieces of art. We appreciate them as living proof of tradition, heritage and ancient knowledge, because the techniques with which they are made have been passed down from generation to generation.

Every rug is 100% handmade. They are produced with hand-spun sheep and llama wool on hand-looms in native rural communities in South America. The process can take up to six weeks, because each rug contains not only hard work and discipline, but also a very profound sense of reality.  We believe in a world of fair trading, that’s the way we work with our artists, so you know your rug is not only improving your home, but improving theirs as well.”

Rouse Phillips Textiles.

Decorative textiles studio Rouse Phillips have launched their website along with an online store. Run by Tim Rouse and Anastasia Phillips, Rouse Phillips was established in 2012. Their products include original printed fabric for soft furnishings and upholstery as well as a range of hand-knotted rugs and woven kilims. All products are produced to the highest of ethical standards and embrace fair trade practices.

Having seen a gap in the market for original, high quality fabrics using the best in natural base cloths, Rouse Phillips began producing a range of fabrics sourcing the best manufacturers locally and from across the globe. Their unique designs are currently available on two cloths – a 100% cotton ideal for curtains, cushions and occasional upholstery as well as a 65% cotton 35% linen mix for heavier upholstery use. All fabrics are currently sold exclusively by Rouse Phillips and available to both trade clients as well as the general public.

Great Dane Furniture and Danish company OX have released the September Chair, designed by Dennis Marquart. Aside from the sleek lines and smooth finishes the chairs distinctive features come from OX’s signature use of robust bull leather against steel. Produced from Spanish and Argentinian cattle, OX’s leather has a thickness of at least 3mm, which promotes a sense of opulence and durability in their furniture. The chair features a powder-finished steel in mint green, topped with a zinc rich primer, providing resistance to rust and long term quality finish.

Wang (oh dear) is a sleek, sexy lounge chair that combines matte finish steel frame, timber seat with oak grain laminate and a beautiful brass fixing detail.

MUNKII is a furniture design company based in Singapore who’s range is distributed throughout Europe and US. Although they currently do not have a local distributor, they happily ship to Australia.

Passionate about quality, creativity and lifestyle, Sydney based furniture studio Christelh have released new products to their Spring design collection. Hover is a beautiful pendant light that celebrates classic materials, modern processes and future design possibilities. Inspired by the round windows of a passenger ship, Hover’s slim profile takes advantage of the LED lighting strips, eliminating the need for a bulky lampshade.

Drawing from a busy schedule of studies, part time work, and managing a design studio, Christel Hadiwibawa is the founder of Christelh, a creative studio that specialises in the design and creation of furniture, lighting and conceptual design projects for commercial and residential use.

Reminiscent of the tribal icon of centuries past, TP coat stand is a visual statement of simplicity and function. TP, standing sculptured in American oak, demands attention while complimenting its surroundings. Features a three or four leg configuration, two utility trays for large and small items, and optional intermediate hooks.

TP’s timeless, elegant lines sit well in any environment from residential hallways to office reception and breakout areas, conference suites, cafes, bars, restaurants and healthcare waiting areas. The coat stand is designed by Ivan Woods.

Fruit Ninja by Mathery.

Fruit Ninja is a homewares collection designed by Mathery and handmade in Melbourne. The collection transforms the fruit peel’s short term function into a long-life one. The vessels explore and reintroduce the natural textures of the fruit – every object is a unique resin reproduction of a model realised from fruit peels. Fruit is carefully selected and minutely cut into geometric shapes before they are reassembled as objects.

The process consists in the realisation of a model made with real fruit skin then replied in resin thanks to a silicon mould. The production of the mould had to be as fast as possible to maintain the freshness and the texture perception of the fruit.

Illuminating Darkness by Lexi Land.

Sydney-based artist Lexi Land is known to be as mysterious as she is revealing, known for her expressive, raw and emotive imagery; bold, often dark and always personal, her work being predominately mixed media and drawing, strives to convey the maximum intensity of human expression, stressing both the physical reality of the human body and its psychological value.

Lexi Land’s upcoming show ” Illuminating Darkness – Dissected Dreamscapes of a Lunatic” opens to the public on September 26th and runs through to October 26th.

“Dissecting my physical reality in the silence of my dreamscape, I form an erotic theatre of the flesh that explores and connects with what lies beneath the surface and in the sweet beauty of darkness, void of time; I illuminate my existence and explore the mysterious magic of the unknown.”
