Dilapidated Sant Francesc Church Reinvented by David Closes // Santpedor, Spain.

Somebody bring me a glass of water – I am burning up from the hhhhotness this magnificent project is generating! I am literally hyperventilating here. Too. Much. Awesome!

Located in the Catalan town of Santpedor, Spain, the Sant Francesc Church was literally crumbling down when architect David Closes began the 7 year long renovation. Closes intention was to preserve the heritage legacy of the building (built between 1721 and 1729), despite it’s heavily damaged state from the pressures of time and neglect. Many of the buildings original aspects were left intact, while a new super-modern insertion gave Sant Francesc a new lease of life by reinventing the building as an auditorium and multifunctional cultural space. I am so impressed with the unique aesthetic of this building and an architectural unity achieved by carefully weaving the old with the new.
